My Brief Time With Inkshares

So I recently discovered the website Inkshares. As a person who's always looking for new writing opportunities, it sounded perfect to me. It's a crowd funding website; their copy has real strong ideas about removing the gate keepers and all that beautiful, beautiful stuff. So as a man not burdened by the anxiety of looking before he leaps, I signed up for it and I posted something. And then, deciding I wanted to get a lay of how a thing like this actually works, I read the terms and conditions, and well the first thing that jumped out at me was that, if my book were to get published, part of my royalties would go to the publishing of the book, and that's an odd, not good red flag being raised.

Well then I read some people's experience with it, and they said it took them like a year to build up a readership base, all that stuff. And then it occurred to me, now follow me on this. They want you to first, on your own, build up a readership base, and then they want to use part of your royalties to pay for the production. Two things that I can do on my own but I wouldn't have to pay them to do that. It strikes me as a tiny bit of an odd experience to see that. But odd in the sense that it feels total bullshit and I know the publishing type’s name. It is Vanity - with a bunch of extra steps because they want you to do the work of a publisher for them, and then they want to profit off your hard work. So scam is another word that comes immediately to mind with them. So, I deleted the thing. I hope I don't break the heart of the poor sweet boy who likes zombies.
