It's very irritating that the Syrian refugee I know only wants to talk about the TBS show Final Space.

This story was not supposed to turn out like this, and it's very irritating that it did. When I met Yara, at the corner grocery store, I assumed, when she told me that she was a refugee from Syria, that I had hit the jackpot. I mean, can you think about it? The beautiful story that I would get credit for telling. Amazing.

It would very much show people how human the Syrian refugees are, through my fantastic words. But when I went to her home to talk about what a brave person she was, what did Yara do? Totally screw me over? That's right, because the only thing she wants to bother talking to me about now is the television show Final Space on TBS. And I've never even heard of this thing. I thought we were talking about her struggle, and how brave and important I am for telling her story of her struggle, but no, all she wanted to talk about was how the animation was good, and the humor was good. And I took it seriously, but it was obviously was a more traditional sci-fi than a comedy sci-fi show.

And I was like, "Yara, but don't you want to talk about how awful your life is?" And she said, "No, it's boring. I mean it's not the best in the world, but I'm adjusting pretty fine.  I'm adjusting okay, I guess. It's nervous and scary. I know not everybody's super nice, but mainly I've been watching the television show Final Space, and really getting into it."

Uh, so disappointing. What does it say about America when poor, poor, defenseless refugees can't help journalists launch the next level of fame and credit? I don't know. But it can't be anything good.

I often think about this when I'm driving out to take my improv class and the theater I'm at is tragically next to a homeless encampment. And when I look at those people, I think gosh, would any of them even help me win a Pulitzer? I don't know.

What happened to America? My America, where you could look at the beautiful sea of faces of disadvantageous people, and think there's a story there that will surely generate enough clicks and be compatible with SEO monetization. Who knows. Maybe young people just don't care about this anymore? And that's a real sad point in our life, because all people deserve to know how smart I am, and how great I can be.
