The Berlin 88 : INT. BOARDROOM DAY

CUT TO:

INT.   BOARDROOM DAY

CLOSE-UP OF SHAY

SHAY
Never demand anything of me. We’re not in any way equals. I have all the power in the relationship. If I wanted to I could make you dance with just a clap of my hands.

We see that Shay, in a power suit, is talking to Holly in what looks more like a normal suit, sitting across.

HOLLY
Well, that is not that great to hear from my lawyer.

ELIOT a Girl who reeks with positivity and DAVE looking like a 12 year-old electronics salesman.
ELIOT
Hey buddy.

ELIOT tries for a high five, but HOLLY refuses it.

ELIOT
Come on. I know it’s a rough time right now, but that doesn’tmean we won’t come out of it better friends.

HOLLY
Yea like sharks and seals

ELIOT
Yes full of love.

HOLLY
Um..n..I hate you

ELIOT
Listen, did I steal your invention and turn it into a billion dollar business while you languished in poverty? Yes, and no. Yes I did it, and no, I did not do it, but that doesn’t mean we’re still not best friends.

HOLLY
You ruined my life; please tell me we can use that to win?

SHAY
Never demand anything from me.

DAVE
OK, let’s remember.

Dave, with little confidence, stands up doing finger-guns ateveryone and smiling nervously.

DAVE (CONT’D)
The issue which we are to decide is the crucial issue of our age: Has man any right to exist if he refuses to serve society?

Dave says that like a child giving a book report, then takes a brief moment of silence and sits back as he looks around pointing at people. Dave sits back down.

DAVE (CONT’D)
Right?

ELIOT
I have no idea why you are being so mean; we’re best friends.

HOLLY
No we’re not.

Eliot snaps her fingers

ELIOT
Figured it out.

HOLLY
Nothing to figure out.

ELIOT
No, no.

Eliot rummages in her bag and hands Holly a pen.

ELIOT (CONT’D)
That’s why you’re so mad, because I stole that pen that you lent me six years ago. That’s why your mad.

SHAY kicks HOLLY and leans over to HOLLY to whisper.

SHAY
We’ll take it. We’re not going to get a better deal.

HOLLY
are you crazy?

SHAY stands up

SHAY
OK, I think I have been pretty subdued in my opinions, but I think I need to say this - you annoy me.

DAVE stands up as well and now you can clearly see he is just reading out of his files.

DAVE
Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver. Read more at http semicolon www dot aya rand quotes dot com!

DAVE sits back down.

HOLLY
Thanks.

DAVE
You’re. Welcome.

HOLLY
Listen - this has, I mean, we can win.
.

SHAY
No.

HOLLY
Why are you being like this?

SHAY
Good question. a bunch of things relly. Like your face - I don’t like it.

DAVE
If any civilization is to survive,  it is the morality of altruism that men have to reject.

HOLLY
OK We get it you like Ayn Rand.

DAVE
Who?

HOLLY
My god people, I worked for years on that machine. Well I will show you. I will make something even better. People will remember the name Holly Rodgers.

Everyone giggles

HOLLY (CONT’D)
Yes I know what it sounds like

Holly stands

HOLLY (CONT’D)

Life is not like this. Good honest people don’t get randomly screwed over by over-ambitious money hungry pricks.

Holly looks at her watch.

HOLLY (CONT’D)
I have to work, you bastard people.

SHAY
Well, that was completely uncalled for.

Holly walks out. Eliot gets up and calls out

ELIOT
Wait, you’re still coming to my tonight party; I put you down for cups, so you’re going to need like a couple of thousand.

INT. LOUNGE DAY
Fred walks by. Holly wanders into the lounge, disoriented, and lays down under a rock picture.
